It's a pet peeve of both my wife and mine to be forced to sit through bad commercials. So keep up the good work.

However, when it comes to this ad, I completely disagree. I believe the point of this series of Apple commercials is to clearly state the advantages of the iPhone over all the competitors - who at a very superficial level may look similar - but when you scratch the surface they are not in the same league as the iPhone. The commercials are edgy, but I don't find them arrogant. It's easy to confuse arrogance for simply stating facts in one's favor.

Arrogance is defined as "an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions." There are no assumptions made in the commercial. I can hardly find them overbearing because they are fairly gently toned. So what about presumptuous? Presumptuous is defined as "overstepping due bounds (as of propriety or courtesy) : taking liberties". I don't believe any bounds were overstepped or liberties taken.

So you can portray an attitude of superiority when your products actually are superior and are backing that up with facts. That's not arrogance. However, if you want to see arrogance in commercials, look at just about anything Android with their "ass-kicking" tech specs, and smug geeks with inflated egos kicking around supposed cutting-edge tech-speak. These commercials, as the products themselves, were clearly designed by geeks for geeks. That is why the mainstream is nuts over the iPhone and ambivalent about everything else.

Really though, the bottom line is that iPhones flew off the shelves this summer. These commercials don't seem to bother that many people, at least not enough to keep them from buying iPhones.marcelbrownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14599828141167699456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204805042212901124.post-74555745819424162872011-08-12T19:13:50.307-04:002011-08-12T19:13:50.307-04:00We hate this commercial.......We hate this commercial.......c21joannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03757589914544673652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204805042212901124.post-25197539736098571932011-08-11T19:50:38.833-04:002011-08-11T19:50:38.833-04:00Hey Thom,

Yet, after watching it a few times, I got sucked in by the couple's dynamics. Insecure, childlike woman needs constant reassurance of man's love. After telling him "You're the best, Mr. Snuggles," her eyes dart around as she waits for an answer. Does he love me? Why doesn't he say something?

Even his lame attempt at a cuddly nickname is enough for her. Until . . . she comes back with another one, "Chipmunk." He doesn't seem upset, but it won't be long before he's either got to come up with another cuddly nickname or repeatedly reassure her of his love. He's gonna tire of that soon. Relationship has no future.Russ Wellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00598728646589830119noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204805042212901124.post-46118178591406038902011-05-05T14:15:58.720-04:002011-05-05T14:15:58.720-04:00Totally agree with your comments.

But framing it within "If you don't have an Iphone" makes me feel like an idiot since I don't have one.

I really don't like the Apple subculture and commercials like this only underscore the perception of snobbery and elitism that Apple users often get.Seamus McFauthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07834446526012158225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204805042212901124.post-67857893915713081372011-03-04T20:53:29.262-05:002011-03-04T20:53:29.262-05:00Great Post!
